On Father’s Day our sangha met before sunrise at the Kayenta labyrinth. Tom Grove (Zopa) did a lovely job of leading. He prepared a written teaching for each of us.
The essence of Tich Nhat Hanh’s message: Peace is not external or to be sought after or attained. Living mindfully, slowing down and enjoying each step and each breath, is enough. Peace is already present in each step, and if we walk in this way, a flower will bloom under our feet with every step. In fact, the flowers will smile at us and wish us well on our way.
After placing things that remind us of our fathers in the center of the labyrinth along with a small stupa, we walked quietly around remembering them. Later, we met at the home of Dechen and Paul for scones and coffee. I must say, these were scones fresh from the oven, with plenty of espresso!! It was our first gathering as a sangha since March of 2020. All of us have been fully vaccinated, for the sake of others as well as ourselves. I am happy that so many sangha members could come. Thank you! — Lhamo Khandro
